C-306 has been researched to be the best wheat across the globe for chapati preparation. It is a pre-Green Revolution era wheat variety developed at Punjab Agriculture University's Hisar Centre (now Haryana Agriculture University) in the 1960s. It is also the parent variety of the class of rainfed wheat varieties developed at that time, now termed Sharbati.
